Tethered

I remember playing it, that game

the ball attached by a rope

like a leash,

redundant.

Hitting something as hard as it could be hit,

watching it spin,

watching it continue.

The impact didn’t matter,

the result was the same –

spinning, spinning.

Never traveling farther

than the already existing circumference.

The boundary remained,

unchanged and complacent,

rotating until it was tangled tightly.

Until it was over,

ending abruptly

only to be replayed

exactly the same way.
